FAQ: Remote Access & Mobile Apps
How do mobile apps talk to my smart home devices?
Most smart home controllers can establish a secure connection to a central cloud server over the Internet. This option will be presented to you as a part of the controller’s user registration process. Requests from your smart phone app are routed to your controller via this secure connection. This type of connection is known as an “SSH tunnel” and is commonly used to allow secure remote access to computers and other Internet enabled devices.
What if I don't want remote access?
That’s fine. All our home controller solutions will continue to function without an Internet connection. You won’t be able to monitor or control your home from your mobile device remotely but you will still be able to access your system when connected to your own local WiFi network.
